GPT-5 Launches — Unified Reasoning Model Free for Everyone
OpenAI released GPT-5 on August 7, 2025 as its first model unifying fast chat and deep reasoning in a single endpoint, ending the need to choose between GPT-4o and the o-series. GPT-5 scored 74.9% on SWE-bench Verified, 94.6% on AIME 2025 without tools, and 84.2% on MMMU, setting new records across coding, mathematics, and multimodal understanding simultaneously. The model was made available to all free ChatGPT users at launch — the first time a unified reasoning model reached the free tier.
